π May 2024 Challenge: Escape the Maze
Mazes are mysterious and captivating. They're a journey, a challenge where every turn and dead end is part of overcoming a trial, finding the center, or discovering an exit. This intriguing concept has inspired numerous stories, artworks, and creative expressions throughout history.
The challenge
In this challenge, we want you to unleash your creativity and craft a score that makes listeners feel like they're trying to escape a maze. Will you lead them to freedom, or will they remain trapped? Itβs all in your handsβlet's see where your music takes them!
Here are some suggestions to help you rock this challenge:
- Use chord progressions that seem to circle back to their starting points, effectively mimicking the circular routes often found in mazes.
- Introduce abrupt changes in tempo and volume to reflect the sudden turns and surprises encountered in a maze.
- Employ dissonance to evoke a sense of confusion, gradually resolving into a clear and harmonious melody, representing the discovery of the mazeβs exit.
- Use a musical motif or select an instrument that consistently guides the listener through your musical representation of a maze.
- Craft sections of your composition to be palindromic, mirroring the symmetry and repetitive elements typical of a maze's structure.
Instructions
- The composition must be an original piece, specifically created from scratch for this challenge in Flat. We will review the score's history to ensure compliance with this rule. Submissions that do not adhere to this requirement will not be considered.
- In the description of your score let us know if the listener is meant to exit your musical maze or not.
- We accept collaborations this time (3 composers max).
- The song must be 1-3 minutes long. We know this is a very limited time but we're getting so many submissions lately, we want to make sure we can carefully review each of themβ£οΈ
- You can only submit one score.
- Deadline: May 31st. No late submissions.
- Remember we can not consider private scores.
