For this challenge, you’ll compose a piece that captures the buzz and cheer of elves crafting toys, whirling machinery, and the festive joy of holiday preparations. Think of the hustle, laughter, and even the last-minute rush to complete Santa's sleigh!

The Challenge


Create a musical journey that portrays different scenes and moods in Santa’s workshop. From the clinking of toy parts to magical moments of elf mischief, your composition should tell a story that bursts with holiday energy.

Instructions:

  • New Composition: This must be an original piece crafted specifically for the challenge—no reusing older scores!
  • Theme Description: Share a brief description of your workshop tale and highlight any instruments used to mimic workshop sounds (like sleigh bells for reindeer).
  • Time Limit: Keep it between 1-3 minutes.
  • Entries: One entry per participant, with optional collaboration (up to 2 composers).

The piece should evoke joy, warmth, and holiday wonder.

✅ Founders’ Enjoyment (5 points):
The Flat founders’ overall enjoyment and appreciation.

Bonus Points:

  • Toy Workshop Sound Effects (5 points): Bring toy-making to life with instrumental effects for hammers, gears, or wrapping paper.
  • Cheerful Elf Choir (5 points): Include a playful choir section.
  • Tempo Magic (5 points): Reflect changes in pace as the workshop activity shifts (like a last-minute rush).
  • Holiday Surprise (5 points): Include a brief and subtle reference to a well-known holiday melody within your original composition. This should not be an arrangement; it should be a short, integrated hint of the melody that enhances your piece.
