🧨 Supervillain Anthem: August Composition Challenge

This month, Flat invites you to turn to the dark side—for musical inspiration.

What drives a supervillain? Is it revenge? Power? Chaos? Glory?

From the haunting elegance of a master manipulator to the fiery rage of a fallen hero, supervillains captivate us not just because they oppose the good, but because they believe they’re right. In this challenge, you’ll step into their world—and score the soundtrack to their story.

🎼 The Challenge

Compose a piece that captures the essence of a supervillain.
Your music should reflect their mind, motives, and myth—blending darkness with complexity, danger with style.

Your score can explore:

• The rise of a villain or their ultimate downfall
• Moments of control, chaos, or inner conflict
• A signature theme: something bold, theatrical, twisted, or strangely beautiful
• Or even a villain who thinks they’re the hero

Use orchestral instruments, synths, unsettling harmonies—or whatever sonic weapons fit your villain’s world.

🧾 Guidelines

• New compositions only – created in Flat from scratch just for this challenge
• Theme required – your piece must reflect a supervillain concept
• Duration – 1 to 4 minutes
• Collabs allowed – up to 3 composers

🧠 Judging Criteria

Your piece will be evaluated based on:

• Concept & Character (30 pts)

How clearly your music reflects a villainous persona

• Creativity & Technique (25 pts)

Originality in composition, instrumentation, and style.

• Narrative Flow (20 pts)

Does your piece tell a compelling story or emotional arc?

• Mood & Atmosphere (15 pts)

Can we feel the villain through your music?

• Founders’ Enjoyment (5 pts)
