The Challenge

Imagine having a crush on someone but never finding the courage to confess your feelings. One day, you pour your heart out into a letter, expressing every unspoken emotion. Yet, for reasons only you know, the letter is never sent.

Your challenge is to compose a piece that embodies the essence of this unsent love letter. Let your music express the vulnerability, longing, and bittersweet beauty of words left unspoken. Capture the quiet hope and tender ache of love that lives only in your heart.

Instructions

  • New Composition: Create an original piece specifically for this challenge—no reusing older scores.
  • Theme Description: Include a brief description of your musical story, highlighting how your composition expresses the emotions of love, vulnerability, and unspoken words.
  • Time Limit: Keep your composition between 1-4 minutes.
  • Submission: One entry per participant (no collaborations this time).

How deeply the music conveys the emotions of longing, vulnerability, and bittersweet love.

  • Creativity (30 points):

Originality in melodies, harmonies, and instrumentation that captures the essence of an unsent love letter.

  • Engagement & Flow (20 points):

The piece’s ability to maintain interest while guiding listeners through the emotional journey.

  • Theme Alignment (15 points):

How well the composition embodies the concept of an unsent love letter, with a reflective and heartfelt tone.

  • Founders’ Enjoyment (5 points):

The Flat founders’ personal appreciation and overall connection to the piece.
